Detox Series: Skin

Some simple swaps to reduce the chemicals you are applying to your skin which, in turn, allows your skin to function more effectively as an organ of detoxification:

Swap out your supermarket body wash for a simple castille soap (recipe can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1ApYEAJoJP/ ) OR opt for a traditional bar of soap! My favourite bar soap can be found here: https://riverbellcottage.square.site/

Swap make up foundation for a mineral based option that allows your skin to breath, my favourite is the Evohe Colours Make Up as it can be used as a loose mineral powder or mixed with an oil base to make a liquid foundation.

Swap synthetic perfumes containing hormone disrupting phthalates and fragrances, for natural essential oils (whether you use a few drops of essential oil in a base oil and 'layer' by applying to the skin after your shower or you can DIY perfume rollers). You can also find some premade clean natural perfume from brands such as Recreation Bondi.

Some simple lifestyle changes to consider:

Take up skin brushing - buy a hard bristle skin brush and use before your shower daily, brushing from the peripheries towards the heart. This invigorates circulation and your lymphatic system.

Increase your intake of chloryphyll (the green stuff in plants!) - either through adding in more leafy greens into the diet or using a greens powder (I like Eden Healthfoods Superfood greens) - this also works as a natural de-odouriser!

Sweat more! Our skin detoxifies by sweating, so get outside and allow your body to sweat daily.
